I'm gonna try to make this sound as simple as possible, but it's hard to put into words.

Ok I go crank my car for the first time that day. Get in and it won't go into any gear. Sometimes I can get it into reverse or 4th gear. If it's in anyone of those the car will still roll even with the clutch fully depressed. Finally after rolling forward, throwing it in neutral and messing with it I can finally get it into every gear. Also if the car is turned off it will go into gear just fine.

My dad had a 96 S-10 that did something just like this and his clutch cable ended up being stretched and he had to get a new one. Could that be the problem? Once the car is able to go into any gear it's perfectly fine.

Oh yeah it's a 96 DX HB btw.

if its a 96 its got a hydraulic clutch which means theres no cable. your clutch line might have a leak in it which would cause the clutch not to fully disengage. there could be air in the line and thats not usualy a good sign, it means theres a leak. check the fluid level

 

sounds like a broken clutch disk to me....

 

Even though after it's warmed up it shiftes perfectly normal?

 

check the slave cyclinder for leaks, check the fluid level on your master cyclinder. if all thats fine then its something internal.

how many miles does it have, it might be ready for a new clutch and throwout bearing
