Check out Angels and Demons...it gives a good vs. evil outlook. Although fictional, it brings up past secret societies thought to have attempted to disband the Catholic Church...

I'm telling you, this book would get read in like 3 days if you have time to spare...

Forever by pete hamill

a story about a guy who moves from ireland to new york city and lives forever as long as he never leaves the city. he sees the city from the beginig to going through slavery, the fires, the american revolution, etc....
i liked it a lot, and i made my girl read it. also got a copy for my brother for christmass and both of them loved it
