Re: Va Driven's First off road build thread
I like the look of the long bed. If you bob it then I would thing that it would loose a lot of it's characteristic. I would not think the bed itself would get hung up on anything. but the frame back there might. What I would probably try to do is keep the bed. Cut the frame at the hanger and either raise the frame up in the rear or angle it upwards towards the rear of the bed to save your departure angle.
Why is the bed even sitting so high off the frame? It looks like a good 3-4" of wasted space in there.

Its how they come from the factory. I believe its so that the bed will clear the tires without any wheel tubs. All of the bed sides are removable and fold down, so there is no wheel tubs on the inside of the bed. To compensate for that, they raised the bed so it wouldnt contact the tires. Just a guess. Seems to be a trend among the KEI trucks I've seen around.

keep the bed. especially if you plan on carrying a spare tire, parts, hi-lift, etc. you'll have somewhere to put it all.
+1 on cutting the frame and having it angle up.

Re: Va Driven's First off road build thread
Im all for doing that to the rear of the frame and angling the back of the frame up, but living at the oceanfront that would royally fuck me when they go to measure my truck for being too high. I gotta leave the rear of the frame as low as possible. I think im going to move the rear axle back a touch and see how the departure angle looks with 36 iroks on it before i mess with the frame stuff and bed.

Its already 93". Not a whole lot more or Ill end up having to run 39's to make up for the wheelbase. My old zuk was about 87" and it worked well with 35 krawlers, id like to run 36 iroks or some 37s for the rocks on this one, and keep some 33s for around town and tough truck events.

i personally love the look of the bobed one plus departure angle will be way better. but like you said i would wait and see what it looks like with the 36 rocks mocked up. but if you plan on going out crawling that long bed and frame with the bumper is going to hang up some. either way kick ass little build cant wait to watch this build man.
