Default FAN CLUTCH

hey i was wondering if anyone has ever been envolved with changing out a fan clutch on a ford ranger with a 3.0, mine is dead but i can not get it off cause i dont know exactly what to hold onto while i crank on the bolt that connects to the water pump, i know its reverse thread and i know im going the right way but i just cant get it to come loose, if anyone has any suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.......thanks

the wrench is nothing more then a big wrench that is like 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 or something like that . . you can pic em up form advance . . but I don't know what to tell you as far as holding the pulley/waterpump from turning . . . when I was working at advance a guy brought in one that he completely tore up trying to pry on it and hold it with vice grips and all kinds of stuff . . .

get a strap wrench that uses a chain and wrap that around the pully and have a friend hold that while you loosen the bolt.

this is how we did it on my 92 ranger

and while that fan is off you might as well replace the timming belt cause if you dont do it now, you'll just go through this again when its that time.
