FFX county wont give jail for 30 over the limit but the fine will be at least 300 plus prolly 3 months loss of license. Sometimes havin a lawyer pisses the judge and prosecuting attorney off too when you have a charge this bad. Theres no way to get out of it, lawyers are only good for gettin jail time suspended. I wouldnt waist the 500 bux for a lawyer. You're lucky is yer first offense, save yer money and plea no contest, dont say guilty...say no contest and apoligize, dont make excuses why u were speeding. I been thru this many times. Im currently on my 3rd consecutive suspension right now , I know this system well. Good luck
No I'm not crazy, or at least I don't think I am. When I went thru the court system for my 90/55 Reckless, anybody who was doing like 87 and below with a lawyer just got a stiff fine, and maybe a 30 day license suspension (but the suspension was rare). Out of state drivers, like me, definitely got a big break from the judge since I had a local lawyer and took a VA DIP class and an aggressive driver class BEFORE my court date.

There is one judge who is lax in FFX County Courts on this stuff (or at least there was). I forget the name, but make sure you get his courtroom. When I was there last, I think his courtroom was 1B.

Sounds like judge Waters or Mcdonugh (sp?), they have a reputation for being somewhat lax. However, FFX has like 7 judges in the traffic courts and they rotate courtrooms on a reguar basis.

You don't have a choice in which courtroom/judge you will be tried infront of. The only thing you can do is go to court in the morning and request a continuance and pray for a different judge the next time your back in court.

Is this a recent change in the law? I had a string of tickets throughout highschool and college and ended up having my license suspended for 3 months from rapid point accumulation. One or two of the tickets qualified as wreckless but it wasn't just one ticket that caused my license suspension.

Many years have passed since all that, and at the moment I have -1 point on the record and one or two of the old tickets reflected on there (from 2000 and 2004). Recently I got a wreckless ticket in Loudoun (78/55, Rt-7). This time I have a family friend/FFX lawyer who recommended I get my speedo calibrated, which I did. I also intend to take a driver class prior to my court date (are these still online? it's been a while for me). This talk of licenses being suspended as a result of ONE wreckless ticket is freaking me out. I have no alternate method of getting to work other than driving (legally).

Suggestions?

No everytime you get caught with a wreckless you don't get your licence suspended.

One of my friends got a wreckless not too long ago and he got off with having to go to 1 drivers improvment class and pay a fine.

its not quite taht easy off. you still end up with 6 points on your license which is alot and your insurance will climb nicely.

I garuntee you if you get caught doin 30 over anywhere in VA you're gonna lose your license for at least a month and if you have prior speeding tickets then 3 months is almost a garuntee. I have had a license for 14 years and had many tickets 3 of which were wreckless driving for goin way too fast. I know the system. Dont listen to people who say they didnt get a suspended license from a wreckless conviction, they're full of shit. Good luck

I got a ticket 89 / 55 and went to court, Judge Dropped it to "Failure to Obey Highway Sign"

then bout 2 weeks later got a 95/55 and The Judge gave me a wreckless with 6 month probation, NO SUSPENDED license.

Well 1 year later got my driving record and only showed the "Failure to Obey"
