Woah gainesville Christ. If your working in DC, live near it or in it. OTherwise your going to go nuts. Oh and 70k isnt enough in DC. Our houses in our neighborhood are selling 700k+ for townhouses in Tysons Area/Vienna. Townhoueses are perfect for 2 or 3 people (Was just me and my mom, now in college) and little to not yardwork, plus they are completely brick.

Yes, homes in Fairfax, MoCo, and Loundon are going for 700+, but homes in PW, Stafford, F'Burg and the like are going for 350+ for a couple thousand square ft.
I have known several people making making about 40k, that were able to live(not survive) comfortably in Prince William.
Now if you want to live in Great Falls, and drive an 06 something; 70k+ wont be enough. But if you are willing to look(really look) for a place, and manage money, think know youll be just fine.
BTW-Town homes in F'Burg are renting for about 850 a month, my girl just got a place down there, right off of Rt. 3

Man, I live in Prince WIlliam County and I thought I would be OK with 42,500. Uh oh.. well, technically I have the first year rent-free to pay off college, but still, I hope I can live after the first year. :-\ That is crazy that you all are saying 70k is chump change. I am very happy to be making 40k right out of college.
My girlfriend used to make 35k+bonus as a retail manager
She paid 850 for her apartment(no free utilities) in Dale City, and 250 for her car, she made out quite well.
Granted, her 60k in F'burg is much better.
