Interesting Fact on Red-Light Cameras
I wonder why it works so well in Europe. If you were speeding and got flashed, they sent you the ticket in the mail. You could go down to the police station and fight it, but they have 3 pictures stating that it was pretty much you.
The red light cameras over there work well too. But they take your license...no questions asked.
I think lawyers are to blame for this. They question every aspect of the law, as with overseas, there is no question- don't run red lights, or we'll take your license.
Can't people just follow fucking directions?

could you elaborate on this? I'm trying to figure out how getting your picture taken would cause accidents.
The problem with red light camera's is they are being used only for revenue, not safety. Its been proven in most cases the number of red light runners decreases greatly when the yellow interval is increased by as little as two seconds.
Its also interesting that over the last 10 years, the yellow light interval has decreased at many intersections. The study here in Fairfax County showed that the intersections that had longer yellow lights had fewer accidents and red light runners than those that just had red light cameras. There was an article in the Washington Post several weeks ago about how the mayor of Fredrick, MD was supporting the installation of red light cameras.............why, couldn't be said any better than the mayor herself "revenues collected from the red light camera's will be used to fund the mayor's senior tax credit bill"
red light camera's for safety, thats like saying the gov't looks out for the best interests of the people..........

I do that all the time! I have gotten two red light camera tickets so now when the light turns yellow I dont risk it, I just slam on my brakes and stop.

Yeah... blame the lawyers for doing their job. We need a guilty until proven innocent policy, too! That way, when someone innocent gets taken to court for something they didn't do, they can be assured there will be a fair trial- in the sense that everyone in the court room is against them and they are on their own to prove they did nothing wrong. No matter how many more innocent than guilty people go to jail/pay fines, it's worth it!
/sarcasm
Red light cameras are fucking stupid, and that's why they're being removed. Not because they can't always prove the person they wrote the ticket for was driving the car, but because they cause accidents. I've seen them happen in front of me, and almost had one happen to me. On top of people stopping too early and/or too fast, there are others who speed up to beat the light and end up smashing someone down past the intersection in the ass because they couldn't stop in time. All they do is cause a panic at the intersection that leads to people doing stupid shit.

drivers like you piss me off, but at the same time we can thank you for being the reason these cameras are getting removed.

Sorry, I'm just not trying to give anymore of my money to Fairfax County. If people didnt follow other drivers so closely then they wouldnt rear end them when the do stop for the yellow light.
