a 10 speed versus a mountain bike, now we're talking. i think the mountain bike needs some lengths though. That 10 speed is high dollar.

i've seen 50mph mopeds.

for a standard moped, i would say that the moped will pull off the line right away, then be easy to pass. but the moped will catch up and win in the end.

It is neither high dollar nor a 10 speed. That mountain bike is far more expensive.

How fast can you guys clip in? A moped would be halfway down the track before I even had my left foot in.

I think the guy on the bike will accelerate faster then the moped, but I think in the long run the moped will come out ahead. Race an 1/8 mile instead.
I mean he felt the need to post a picture of the same bike he has, but I think you read a bit too far into my post.

lol, I know dude. I really actually got into bikes a lot, I always wanted one of those damn 900 dollar bikes at the bike store. My walmart bike was pretty mean too though

Ritz, you thought you could read me and claimed I was trying to brag about my bike, and you were wrong. Deal with it. This is about a race, not a bike. I posted the pic of the bike because: a picture is worth a thousand words. This is a car enthusiasts forum and it might be hard to explain my ride to some people here, but with a pic no explanation should have been necessary, except that asshats like you like to throw accusations around. Now I have to explain the pic instead of the bike, even though the bike costs less than the wheels a lot of people have on their road bikes.

As for clipping in, I'm riding with straps, and my left foot wont get strapped in.

The whole thing is a moot point unless I actually find someone with a moped to race. I'm not interested in racing other bikes, I can do that anytime I want. I'm also not going to race anything with a top speed over 35 mph, because there is no point. However, I am still hoping that someone with access to a moped will find this thread and agree to race, because there are a lot of different opinions on the outcome of this odd ball race, and I'd like to see which one pans out.

Won't you be wasting a lot of power that way?

Yes he will waste tons of power that way. When I pedal I pull with the cleats as much or more then I push with down force from my feet. You can only push for about 1/3 of the crank rotation, you can pull for 2/3. If you are racing you need to be clipped or cleated. As for your other question, I would assume he would have at least one foot clipped at the start of the race. Or if he is really good he could have both feet locked, and just track stand. Me? I am neither fast nor graceful on my bike, so I couldn't track stand, and I would most likely lose to a moped.
