Its a fraud. If you want to get a sponsorship basically you have to approach the companies you want a sponsorship from and have a proposal ready to prove to them why your car is worthy enough to be backed by their name and products. Import Tuner or Super Street (can't remember which one) had an article all about this a while back. It will be tough though (but then who said getting something good for next to nothing was easy anyways). More then a few people who are in NOVA are sponsored...maybe one of them will be kind enough to shoot you a PM or comment in this thread in regards to how they got their sponsorship and tell you what kind of obligations they have to uphold in order to keep their sponsorship.

Well my wife says she wants me to not get involved with sponsors because of issues she heard people had with them. But I just can't afford to hook up my S2000 the way I want without one.

There are many forms and types of sponsoships. Most often, for most of us, a company will supply products at a greatly reduced rate (wholesale rate, or cost). Don't take these too lighlty becuase it all leads to good things.

When looking for a sponsor, ask yourself what is in it for the company? How can you, and your car, help that company make money, and build their name?

Before I even speak to a potential sponsor, I make sure that I can help their company. I know with 100% confidence that I will be an asset to them. I show them what I am willing to do to be sucessful. For the most part, you are selling yourself.

Many companies will require you to attend a certain number of events (show or race) to fulfill your end of the deal. THERE IS NO FREE MONEY OUT THERE...YOU WILL WORK FOR IT!

What kind of sponsorship are you looking for? Are you just trying to get discounts off of parts?

Well I have a 2000 S2000 and I am trying to turn it in to a show car. So I am not sure but as it is now I attend atleast 8 shows a year and I would like help trying to get the car into the top 3 at the shows. I am willing to put in the time and effort but I am not in to putting 20 thou out of my pocket into the car. i just can't afford it. But that is what it takes to contend now in the show class.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if it only took the willingness to put in the time and effort, all of us would have bad ass rides.

Unfortunetly, its the money you put into your car that shows how serious you are about competing. (at first, until you make a name for yourself). Like I said above, companies want to "use you" to "help them". It wouldn't benefit them to just give you money or parts to start from scratch.

On the plus side, after you dump money into your car and start winning shows, you will be more visable and companies will come to you, and it will make it easier to approach companies for money and parts.

To add to those programs..they're not worth the time and money. The best thing to do is talk to the companies that you want/interested at. Send them a proposal about yourself, your car, and your plans in the future. Also SEMA events is a good start. I picked up 4 sponsors when I was up there. One more advice..don't act like you just want to get sponsored so you can get free stuff...it's not all about that. Promoting their company/products is a big thing for them. Also don't be like some people who just wants to get sponsored by a lot of companies and you don't even like the product. It's not all about the quantity..it's about the quality.
