Another way to do it is to find a local shop and approach them at a show, if your willing to show up and down the east coast most local shops will help you out with parts and send a rep with you too. Like everyone else said it's not free and it will take work. Being able to represent an up and coming shop is a good way to get started though.

I agree....you are going to be dumping a good chunk of change into your car prior to getting sponsored. Treat your car like you are starting up a magazine. You want to get companies to pay for advertising space in your pages but first you have to show them who your readers are and how many they will reach with their ads. Also, dont look for companies to pay your entrance fee or transport fees for shows. Very rarely will a company actually shell out money on you.

A lot of sponsorships work in the respect that you have to buy a certain amount of parts a month to keep the sponsorship. I had one place offer me sponsorship but I had to spend $3,000 a month at their shop. I would get almost 75% off but I just didn't have that kinda money. Im still talking with them to see if they can get it to be about half of that...we'll see.

Either way, point is...people don't give stuff away for free. Sponsorships where you get FREE parts are hard to come by. Even if you do find one of these, their not going to give you free parts to start from scratch. You have to spend money to get stuff. If you truely can't afford to hook-up your ride, your in the wrong hobby.

A small amount of companies not a lot. Hmm i guess i'm one of the lucky ones that didn't have to spend money on their products. It really depends on your situation and how active you are into the scene.

I'd have to say its pretty rare to just get a bunch of free stuff, I'd also venture to say its next to impossible if your car is BONE stock.

That pretty much says your just looking for free stuff. When you've put in zero effort into the car on your own. Why would they chose someone who can't afford any parts for their car? Theres a million people like that all over the world, what makes any of them more special than the other?

One more advice..don't act like you just want to get sponsored so you can get free stuff...it's not all about that. Promoting their company/products is a big thing for them. Also don't be like some people who just wants to get sponsored by a lot of companies and you don't even like the product. It's not all about the quantity..it's about the quality.
When's the next one of those SEMA events. I Know there's one yearly in sept. right..

This sponsorship is the equivalent of getting sponsored but a shop. They basically allow you to get parts at a discount. $ the $10k in parts is a discount. Basically everytime you buy something the discount portion comes out of that $10K.It's not really a true sponsorship.

If you guys are looking for sponsorship is best to write a proposal, get some really good pics of your car and start email manufacturers about who to contact in regards to a sponsorship. Most of the time you'll be required to send them a copy of the proposal and pictures so they can review. For true sponsorship you want to go directly to the manifacturers and get the parts for free(or pretty close to free) in return you display the manufacturers logo on you car.
