I say get a lawyer. If you represent yourself, you're probably leaving money on the table (even figuring giving a lawyer 1/3 of any winnings). They do this for a living, and are good at what they do. Sounds like they'll be able to use your current situation for more $$$.
I'm against everyone suing everyone for meaningless bullshit, but you have an absolutely legit case and the aftermath of this accident sounds like it will definitely have an impact on your immediate future.

You have to ask yourself... How much time of work are you missing? How much money in wages/salary will be lost? Is your future ability to function 100% in jeopardy? Will your quality of life diminish from here on out?
If the answers are "no"s across the board, then I say handle it yourself. If this accident is going to change your life in a seriously negative way, then I would absolutely get one.
