Default any car salesman in here?

I've been thinking about getting into selling cars through major dealerships, not those used cars ones, on the side. It's something I can do during college on weeknights and weekends. How is it? How is the pay? Do you need to obtain a sales person license? I checked DMV's website and they had a page about car sales license but gave no info other than a number to call. Is a license required to sell cars? Know if any place is hiring?

Yes you have to have a salesman license...but it is really easy.pay, hours, and oppurtunity all comes down to the dealership

+1....

Also, these days, I think the larger multiple store names are the way to go.... after I left the business for a more long term position, found out I would have made an extra 1.5-3 grand a month at my volume at a different major dealer- commission only can be killer at a smaller dealership, unless for a brand less represented ........ I guess the point is, look around before you join up... a number of md dealers have gone salary, something worth considering..

Which ever dealership you decide to go with will get you squared away on the licensing part (mine did)...but like the other guys said everything is different per dealership, I personally have worked for Carmax and Whitlow Chevrolet for a short time and to me Carmax was a better overall experience, bigger selection of cars easier salesman customer relationships and the monthly spiffs and bonuses were a plus as well, it's all on the dealership....
