Default GP shift mod

has anyone else done it?

piece o cake on most bikes. i did it on my K3 (2002 GSXR) and loved the feel.
if you dont know,. its a *relatively simple mod that flips the shift linkage so that your shift pattern is opposite 1-up, 2-6down.
for me it was eaisier to shift up into the next gear at the dragstrip..
but more importantly it allowed me to upshift coming out a corner w/o fear of my toes getting clipped underneath the shifter.

POINT of the thread though is this... now i have a '06 model and the linkage goes verticle and is not even connected to the footpeg.
The first thing i did before i even got on the bike after buying it was to flip the linkage. i go putting down the street then make a turn onto the highway, after 2nd gear it was STUCK! i couldnt shift back to neutral or third. so i just held the clutch in and coasted.

the arm had jammed up against the engine, and needless to say i had to put it back to stock -.- has anyone seen a mod for the 06 to make this work?

I do a little racing and all my bikes are GP shift. I wouldnt ride any other way.

Have you checked with Vortex or OSF-racing ?

heres a write up i did on gixxer.com....

http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89777

im guessing you didnt move the pivot point for the shifter back 1 position. i did it and HATED it. i rode like that for over 100 miles thinking i would get used to it, but i didnt. its not for everyone, and its way over rated. people act like its the best thing in the world, and to some, it may be...

hope the link/pictures help.

There is no way I could re-learn myself to shift that way. lol I'd be downshifting on accident all the time.

happened to me a couple times. and trust me, just because you have a slipper clutch on that k6 600, doesnt mean the rear tire wont slide way the fuck out on you either when you downshift on accident in the middle of a turn...

i think i've been riding too long to reteach myself and make the switch, most fast guys use it since it can help on certain left hand turns, but you've got to be really really fast for it to matter at all and even then your talking maybe 1/10th or less a lap if theres such a turn... and some really really fast guys still use standard shift, mat mladin for one i believe... i rode a moped with gp shift and i just could not nail it into my brain what to do, even if i got used to it i'm afraid in a panic situation at like 150mph or something my brain might switch back with out me realizing and put me on my ass or worse, so i'm ok with what i know works for me

My GS is GP Shift. It was a by-product of my rearset swap and converting the shifter to a link type setup. I got used to it fairly quickly and like it though. I do sometimes need to think for a split second which way I want to toe the shifter, but very very rarely mess up a shift. I trade rides with my buddies from time to time too and have so far successfully made the transition from GP to normal without incident. That said though, when I eventually sell my GS and finish my Yamaha, I won't go out of my way to convert it.
