dumb noob questions
Don't know where you've been going, but the only place that's ever let me test ride is the harley dealership...most don't have the insurance to cover it! You can sit on a lot of different ones, but you probably won't know exactly how it feels when you ride it unless you can talk someone into riding theirs! I am 6' and 215 lbs and I feel pretty comfy on my '00 ZX6R, but it's fightered with dirtbike bars. My '03 ZX6R is all stock and it isn't too bad, especially when I am in the turns. If I ride in a straight line for about 45 minutes, it gets pretty uncomfortable, but that is mostly the seat which could be fixxed if I had money...corbins are nice!
I will tell you the same I tell many people. SV650...and I'm not a big Suzuki fan...hell, I bleed Kawasaki green when cut. But the SV is an excellent first bike, comfortable, and won't leave you wanting when your experience level gets better. In a couple years you could trade up to something with more power and won't regret starting on something smaller. It is easier to learn on something with less power...the growth factor increases quicker.
Either way, good luck and welcome to an awesome sport!
I might do something dumb I know its way too big of a bike but the price is right, a guy at work has a older zx-11 with only 3500 miles on it he only wants 2500 for it. Extremely big for a first bike but it I sat on it and it feels comfortable.
Treat that throttle like an egg.
I agree with jake here.
Its cool if you get a bigger bike as long as you learn to control the throttle and respect the bike for its power. The power is there, its up to you to properly untap it and control its out put.
As long as you have a good cautious head about learning to ride, and even when you feel more experienced, youll be able to prevent your self from getting into a situation where you cant get out.

i am 6'4 and 210 and i had a chance to ride on all the major bikes (cbr 600, r6, gsxr 600). Out of all the bikes i rode i perfered the feel of the r6. To me after awhile of driving any aggressive style sportbike is going to make your back sore. I bought an r6 and had a custume made seat put on that has alot of gel and cushion. It helps alot. The 600 is also a great first bike and it is very easy to handle. I was i noob too a few weeks ago.
