250's dont have balls. They are like the kid that somehow was born with no nuts, but had some artificial ones put in. If your learning, then they are good to get used to 2 wheels, because thats what riding classes teach you on. If you want to get something with balls thats still cool to learn on, get a 600. Just save for it or pick up one that is older for 2500. For a grand more you could probably find a YZF-600R.

Sorry dude; worse advice I've seen given here so far.......................

There is nothing wrong with a 250. IMHO you shouldn't be learning on a 600cc sportbike that can do 140+mph, there's no point. Buy the 250 for cheap money; like I've said before, a brand new Ninja 250 is 3k, then sell it after a year and get whatever it is you want.

I hate this whole "I can't let my friends see me on a 250 'cause it's not cool" mentality.

Are you gonna buy your future 16 year old son a brand new Dodge Viper when he's 16?????????????????? NO, 'cause he'll probably kill himself....................

I agree but I do know the mentality....If you can't stand a 250 then get something like a slightly bigger Katana or something and then excersize some self restraint. Your last name isn't Duhamel, don't act like it is. In my opinion get a 250 if you think you'll be content with it for a year or more. Otherwise get something SLIGHTLY bigger and just show some restraint.

my best friend has a 954rr, and he can ride his ass off... and guess what he's shopping for right now for a second bike, a ninja 250, because they are that much fun to ride, especially off road

if you mean lingo* there isnt too much 1. cagers = ppl in cars 2. squid = ppl riding with little or no gear i.e. T shirt and shorts and if you can get a cbr600 for only 500 more, go with the cbr. sure a 250 CAN be fun, but you will be looking for a bigger bike be it a 500 or 600 in the near future. i personally am kinda a big guy and sittin on a 250 all day doesnt cut it. youll be fine on a 600 if you have dicipline. me, slow rolla, and countless others started with either 600's or 750's. youll be able to ride the hell outta a 250 w/0 gettin too scared BUT everyday use over the summer could get a bit redundant. a 600 bike is a good way to go. you can learn it well, learn its limits and yours and for 2500, you wont wanna hang youself if you lay it down once or twice.
