On Weber IDF carbs, you have two circuits for fuel, one is idle and one main. Each one is regulated by jet size and by air correction jet size. The idle air jet is fixed, and the main air correction jets are replaceable in the emulsion tube stacks that install as an assembly.
At some point (throttle position, rpm, and load dependent) the idle circuit starts to taper out, and the main circuit comes in. The day before I had adjusted my idle jets for economy, which worked great in terms of mileage up and back.. I got about 29mpg there and 31 back, roughly. With idle and cruise AFRs around 14.5 I was kickin. BUT apparently they don't taper off as much as I thought and my AF meter was giving me collective readings for the whole engine, far down the exhaust pipes. What I was getting was a lean foul condition, hence some preignition, and the readings were throwing me off.
Once I replaced the idle jets with the next size up, and got my idle and cruise AFRs back around 13.2, things are lookin up. Wished I'd figured that shit out last night, coulda done a LOT better, instead of staying in third through the lights, getting 102 MPH. I coulda got some more. Damn. All that to try to get a lousy 3 or 4 more MPG.. I'm a dope.
Anyway, man I had fun and talked to some cool people. I'm going to be moving out of state in two weeks, or I'd be back, even if the track sucked. That track's better than NO track.

richmond is open again this friday night. come on out.
Ah, the Friday night shootout! I'll see what I can do. That would be great, because I am moving to Nashville, and believe it or not, there is no dragstrip in Nashville. The closest is in Bowling Green, KY, at 60 miles.

damn. keep an eye out for same pretty fast 4-doors. I know of at least one n/a Maxima that is almost in the 12s out there.
I spun through first........but my new clutch didn't slip and my car didn't break...so overall it was a great night.
Did anyone happen to get any action pics or vids of my pile?

i guess the track got a lot better right before the chevelle ran somehow? or the bike.
i thought the 'prep' or lack of was on par for richmond. i spun first gear as usual but never spun second and with 275 17" dr's still clicked over 140 once.

Evidently the track was rented to the folks that put on the show. They were told that they then in turn had to pay for all the prep materials used for the track as part of the agreement. Their exact words were..."well, then try to use as little as possible" ......FWIW....
I think Richmond's Friday night prep is pretty good, certainly better than VMP but then again I don't have 1000 rear wheel either.....I love the wheels on the Chevelle.....
