Yeah, I was suprised about the ticket because the catback/muffler is not that loud and rated at 80 decibels.

I read somewhere that 92db is the loudest a exhaust can be in the state of VA funny part is that some sports cars these days come exhaust that are already louder then that.

 

Va does not use a decibel rating for there tickets at all. If it is a factory part, he can get the ticket thrown out with a receipt or something from the dealer. Only cali to my knowledge has a decibel system.

 

He has already gone to court for this and the judge found him guilty of a noise violation. I gave him paperwork with decibel readings stating it is 50 state legal for noise and it is a dealer option. That is why the judge threw out the illegal exhaust ticket he got with the noise violation.

 

VA doesn't have laws concerning noise but permits localities to have them. He needs to check out the local laws in the jurisdiction he was in.

edit: I believe Chesterfield's is not based on decibels, but on how far away you can hear it...very subjective.
