Need i say more?

Actually the Marines were first in Panama 3/6 (3rd Bn 6th Marines) was already in country stationed at the Barracks before that even broke out

Also Operation Urgent Fury, the Marines and Rangers and 82nd AB attacked together. The first in was the Seals as they were pinned down in a house aka the plot to Heartbreak Ridge.

And where was the army at when the Gulf War started...seriously? Because I don't remember my ship, or any of the other 6 that went, that had any army. Where were they at the ports in Southern Iraq? Really...where were they?

enjoy bootcamp....
Haha, funny you should mention that. If you read a little history, the naval guns overshot the beaches. Hence why every fortification on the beach was still there and why Normandy is so infamous. Even though the Navy fucked up, the Army still got it done. Not to mention both the 101st and 82nd were in Normandy before the Navy started shelling. Did you forget that part too?

And Desert Storm is Gulf War just in case you didn't know. Read my blurb there. I already addressed it. They were there day 1. They were also in Iraq part 2, day 1. My friend didn't see any Marines. It doesn't mean they weren't there. Perhaps you forgot when the Kitty Hawk road up with nothing, but Army Aviation? Once again, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't say anything.

Yeah I forgot about that. They were scouting the airports or something that Rangers were suppose to take. Seemed they fail to do that though.

Actually, the Marines were also on the order of March with the ID's, spearheading into Iraq in 03. They did a good documentary on the 1st Tank BN. on their move into Iraq with everyone else.

No one was really the first and only group. However many went together. Also before the ground war even got started in desert Storm a group of Recon Marines were behind enemy lines in the city of Kafji where the Iraqi's came into the city and both teams went into the buildings and called arty into their positions and mined the buildings so they wouldnt be captured. I had a buddy that was on that team. Also a Force recon team of 12 men and some SF guys also went in to recaptuire the American Embassy in Kuwait before any troops arrive in Kuwait city. They were well in advance of the Coalition. My old Infantry Platoon Sgt was on that team.

Generally speaking throughout History the Marines have been the first in. They have fought alot of wars from the Battle of Chapultapec, Barbary Pirates, WW1 and WW2, Korea they landed at Inchon(which was the furthest North we have been at that time. Also the First major units to arrive in Vietnam in 65 was the Marines, even if they looked like shit when they landed. .

My brother enlisted as an E3 11x airborne with special forces intent also. He's currently at basic at Benning and then he goes straight into Airborne school there as well. Good luck to you.

Good luck to you Brian. Props for serving the country. Are you going in for career Army? My father served for 27 years. Anywho, like I said, best of luck.

Modern wars are no longer won with bullets. The ability to influence citizens' ideals, economy, and information have far greater lasting impact to either start or finish a war. That's how WWII started -- national pride, econonmic sanctions from the previous war, and restrict outside news reports. Read any peace treaty and you'll find those 3 items. Common examples include: religious and political freedoms, low interest loans for reconstruction, and international observation groups. That's why there is so much preparation before anyone with a rifle sets foot in a foreign country. If you want to know where the next troop deployments will be, just check my travel schedule 2 years back.

I'm glad that Brian has decided to support his country in the way he feels best and we should all support him in his efforts. However, it is also important to realize that others serve their country in varying ways and it is not appropriate to claim that one way is necessarily better than the other -- all working towards the same effort.

Never said they didn't. Which is why I said 3rd ID spearheaded at least on one front. I'm not trying to put down Marines, but I am trying to debunk the fact that 'Marines and Navy go in and fuck shit up and the Army and Air Force just garrison things for 20 years.' I just outlined 7 wars and conflicts of the last century where the Army spearheaded or was among those spearheading. This is quite to the contrary where Marines and Navy have fought every major war of the 20th Century. What a fucking joke. I tried to bar special ops recon units and keep it to more major fighting units. Often it's hard to determine who was first then if you talk about special ops.
