damn, i didnt think so many people had problems..
when i lived with my dad, we never had a problem. i had it there for a good couple years. ever since i moved into my apartment, the service has been horse shit. the tv never goes out, but they have my cable hooked up in the box so shitty. i took a look in there and there are lines and splitters EVERYWHERE... my internet tap was off someone else's tv tap, that was tapped off something else.. ect. ive had them out 3 times in one month, and every time i have to wait 5-6 days before they can come out. the last guy that came out told me "it should be fixed". i told him that if he didnt fix it right, then to go ahead and get the shit disconnected because im tired of it being out, i might as well not even have it.
knock on wood, its been good for about 2 weeks so far with no problems. but im another unhappy customer.
and their customer service line blows. everytime i call they just blow me off with a "we will credit you for the days you are out." its coming to a point where that isnt good enough. im not asking for free shit, i want internet, not $5 off my next bill...

well jus last night i somehow lost the connection to my dads computer. I'm using the USB on mine, he has the actually thing.. forgot what its called. His internet works but mine doesnt. I cant connect to the internet at all, and for some reason it wont connect to his so now I have to call comcast and fix that shit for the 3rd time.
Im at my girlfriends house now so thats the only way i can get on the computer.

Ask the tech that comes out for a line filter that works with cable modems. If he doesn't know what the hell you are talking about, slap him with a toad -- that's the problem. Line amplifiers are usually put into service with a bunch of splitters and they put line noise into the system.
thanks not stock, we are having comcrap come out here weds... shit hasnt been working for a couple days hence why i havnt been online... Man i hate this shit.. i pay 45 bucks amonth to play 3 differant games and they are making me waste money i perfer not too...
well i called comcrap last night kinda in a dickhead mood.. asking why should i pay good hard earned money for 2 rate service. needless to say it didnt go very far other than we will give you a 27 dollar credit.. ooo 27. dollar credit when i shell out 45 - 60 bucks a month for online game service i cant play.
But to make a long story short, a service tech comes out today and is like well this palce needs a signal booster. because of the splittign cable going into each of teh bedrooms and living room. then he just leaves without doing anything... Bet your shweet ass im going to be making another call about this one...
must say AL-David nailed this one on the head...

If he puts a signal booster on that line, it's going to be the problem I've described -- line noise will increase and he will forget about putting in a line filter for your cable modem and it will drop faster than panties at prom. You're gonna get some random tech who applies band-aids to the problem. Diagonal lines (signal interference) and ghosting (signal boosted too much) are telltale signs.
When I called them up for initial service, I asked for the "senior tech" and have him give me part numbers of what the tech was going to need and put in a service request for a line noise check at the house, cable modem termination system (which runs the area's local curbside boxes) and the terminal. Filters were applied at the terminal and something was swapped at the main hub, they didn't tell me what. Had them re-run a line from the terminal to the house because the meter detected signal interference (there was a nick in the original underground line). I have test equipment that can tell you where there is a break, it gives the length, pretty damn cool, especially handy since I'm running about half a mile of cable in my home. Obviously, this was not a one day job. It did get done and I did send two techs home because they were just plain incompetent.
Here's a simplified diagram of how Comcast delivers their signal.

BTW, I run server racks off my Comcast cable modem.

I recently moved to a new apartment and am looking at different internet service providers. I really realllyyy don't want to go with Comcast because I haven't had very good experiences with them in the past. Plus they are way overpriced for poor quality service, in my opinion. Right now the deal is $20 for the first three months, then $43 for each month after that. Ridiculous. What do you guys think about Cavalier ($25/mo) or Verizon ($30/mo)?
