I really don't see why the pipe method hasn't worked for you. From the looks of it if you couldn't break it loose by hand then you have enough space to jump on the pipe and I'm sure that would work.

yea both of mine bent. a very noticeable curve to it after i tried removing an axle nut that was seized up.
