yep, the ENTIRE TIME with 0 issues ..... we were betting on it comming off the first 20 laps (as were the other drivers)
Even on Sunday we kept it on, we know it probally slowed us down a little ..... but we had so many people pulling for us on the internet stream ..... and we figured we'd win some award for staying in theme the whole time.
Unfortunatly we were awarded NOTHING, not even a mention of us, but either way we had a fucking blast.
The guys who got peoples choice were the Merkur guys, and it was well deserved .... they stayed in costume the whole weekend. Had car troubles all weekend, Sat night a guy drove down to Atlanta to get a clutch for the car, they messed up that weird ass tranny they had and put it back together with lowes bolts all shaved down. About 2PM the guys got back out on the track and as they passed EVERYONE was screaming and cheering for them. Wrenchin on the car all night long, and they were all just as nice as could be.
We hung out with the WE TODD guys for a bit Sat night, def one of our fav groups that were down there cause they were damn near the only ones up as late as us.
I think 24th out of 96 teams is pretty damn decent .... the car looks like it did when we pulled it off the trailer on Friday morning still ..... and like mike says runs great.
I do have to say I love the idea of this race and the fact that the penaltys are all funny etc etc .... but Jay Lamm and the two judges DEFINATLY showed ALOT of favortism out there. The Saab that was in first place at the end of the first day was beating and banging on people left and right spinning people around .... FINALLY gets a black flag pulls in for their spin of the wheel and Jay Lamm sent him back out with no penalty. We got black flagged for AVOIDING a collision ..... I think its awesome because we got to partake in every bit this race had to offer and its a great story ..... but it just shows how much favortism there was at this race.
Hell during the BULLSHIT inspection the Mustang that ended up being crushed was only docked 21 laps. It had every steeda suspension part you could buy, t56 tranny, full bassani exaust, caster camber plates .... full length subframe connectors ..... the car was stupid fast (compared to whats out there) and to top it off the guys were "pro drivers" being dicks on the track.
10am on Sunday morning they pulled off the track and into the garage and they started stripping it cause they knew they were goin to be peoples curse. Your supposed to get ONLY 30 mins to strip the car .... they had 2 hours. It was brought to Jay Lamms attention and he just was like ehh whatever. the engine was the only thing left on the car when it was crushed.... no radiator tranny any sort of wires, bbs wheels, you name it it was off the car.
Im at work now, ive been promising more pictures .... and well def. get them up. Im sure the other guys once they get home (they got a hotel last night) will post some more as well.
