As stated before, the Zetec motor is just a name. There is nothing special about it. No variable valve timing, no variable intake runners, or anything. It's just simple DOHC 16V. However, contrary to most opinions, after owning one, I really like the motor. It responds well to mods and has something Honda owners can only dream of.... MORE TORQUE THAN HORSE POWER.!!!

FWIW, Ford uas using the Ztec name long before the Vtec was around. The Ford Ztec name goes back to about '82 or so. I saw the release of the Ztec badged Formula 1 engine at the Detroit Grand Prix back when they raced in the streets of downtown Detroit and raced Formula 1 cars. It was all in response to the success of the Renault F1 Turbo engine.
