What to look for when buying a used EVO
To those of you who have owned one, what should I be looking for when buying a used EVO8 (2003) off the lot ? Aside from the obvious visual check/test drive/leak check routine you go through on any car.
Although I have owned my fair share of boosted vehicles, I am not at all familiar with Mitsubishi/Lancer platform as all of my cars have been German. Any recommendations ?

Re: What to look for when buying a used EVO
Probably not the best idea to buy a modified one from a car lot unless you know exactly what was done to it. Take a compression tester along and test it when you buy it for sure. The spark plugs are easy to take out on evos. Also you just disconnect the crank position sensor (triangle shaped, right behind the oil cap) to prevent the injectors from firing. It will throw a check engine code, but it will go away after you drive it a few times.

Edit: Oh and if you're looking at buying from a company called Car Choice in Va Beach, they are completely full of shit and advertise cars they don't even own and will lie about owning them over the phone to get you on the lot only to try to sell you one at an auction somewhere. Fuck them. Just check their google reviews. The only positive ones have the same format, meaning one of their employees is probably posting them.

I was still on my stock clutch at 80K (someone rear ended me and totaled my evo) because I didn't launch my car at every light like a kid but most people will abuse their clutch so I would put aside money for a new clutch too
EDIT: personally I think you would be able to find a better deal on evom depending on what you are looking to do with the car (and budget of course)

I wouldn't suggest buying from a small shitty dealership. If I were you I would spend a little more and buy from a reputable dealership or maybe from a private seller.
