ps. The wife drives a supercharged Impala SS.
I am 40 and not some teenage street racer. I do enjoy a performance car when kids are not around.

I assume if you went G8 you'd want a GT. Cause who would want a v6 G8?
Good luck finding a decently priced GT with decent miles. I've been looking for a good deal on one for a while now with no luck.
I'd honestly stay away from a WRX. All of them have been beat to hell. I second JB saying a Camry, specifically an SE if you can. I'm not even a fan of Toyota (due to prior experience with them) but the Camry is always solid.
As far as thinking of weak spots on cars, don't. You'll drive yourself crazy because every car has SOME kind of issue or weak point in the manufacturing.

+1 on the Camry. We have an '07 SE v6 as well and it's a very nice car. Transmission is quick, even in the O/D mode. Suspension is comfortable but accommodating for some spirited driving.
Overall a great family car - Reasonably priced and commonly found for <$15,000 at <100k miles.

To the OP if you're looking for something a little fun and have four doors I would recommend an M5, but I wouldn't stress on something like that since your price range is under that of a low mileage one. A g8 gt was what I was looking for but never found one for the right price/mileage.
Personally I would go for one of those genesis sedans with the 5.0 v8, but may be too high for your price range. Also an audi a4 or a6 wouldn't be a bad choice either as I have a soft spot for audi's.
Either way or your could buy a new si sedan and enjoy the savings and build something on the side.

Carmax? That's where I first went when looking for my current car. Nice selection of all types of vehicles.
