Default Timing advance ?

Here is a dumb question - from what I was able to gather it takes a $3000 system called Consult to adjust my ignition timing. Hall Nissan being a true stealership wants $115 for 2 min flash. Is there anywhere else in HR I can go to get that done ?

See if Jim Wolf Technology has anything that can help you out, they do a lot of Nissan reflashing. I'm not really up on my Nissan ECU stuff, but you used to be able to get aftermarket Consult-type interfaces for cheap to be able to do stuff like this. I'm not sure if the later model cars are able to be used with those though. Any Nissan people care to lend a hint?

im a toyota mastertech personally but iirc, the 02 altima is a COP ignition setup right? you can actually adjust your timing with nothing more than a MSD 6a, rpm switch, and a timing light. you can advance up to 13 degrees and retard up to 6 degrees of base timing and tune your advance with rpm increase and MAP readings. very awesome stuff here.

OK, I recently got greddy e-manage piggy back with ignition harness among others, still waiting on software. Could you please translate what you meant by MSD6a, switch and light ? What would I need to buy ? To my knowledge the only way to get it done was through Nissan's Consult which uses a standard ODB2 port under my steering wheel but its able to read and write directly to the ECU.

Yup, maybe if you bring a six pack to a tech he'll do it "free"

It only takes a couple of seconds.

edit: well I got curious, here is a nice program as long as you have a laptop. http://www.blazt.biz/

Hmm.. btw BLazt doesnt work for my car, already looked into it. Its either Consult($100 fee wasted), e-manage piggyback ($300) or Technosquare re-flash ($500)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=msd+6a - $200

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=rpm+switch - $150

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=timing+light - $30

Doesnt sound like a viable use of $$$
