owned a few subys. 2 wrx and 1 sti. Had major electrical issues on my first wrx. but both my 05 sti and my latest 02 wrx have been great, maintenance was pretty much normal for any car. only issue I had with the wrx was the fuel hose problem which I fixed myself, takes quite a while but is an easy fix once you finally get to it, ha.. Major maintenance is doable yourself if you have the tools and such but having all aspects around is nice too. Easy to understand the cars when you read up on them, like ken said, they respond well to mods. I also was in love with my sti, literally cried when I sold it. The wrxs I liked but was not nearly as attached to them at the sti.

Do your self a favor and if you live in the 757 area, if you're planning on purchasing a car bring it to All Aspects for a presale inspection. This can save your thousands of dollars.
You'd have no idea how many times we've had people bring us car's a week after ownership.....broken.

02 wrx owner, had a cracked power steering hose. And changing this clutch is a bitch (first one). Other than that, I absolutely love it. There are known issues with the transmissions on 02/03's.

I have an 06 STi, maintenance is pretty straightforward. I haven't had any problems. Just have to find a car that hasn't been beaten on. There are some known problem areas to check but it depends on the model you are looking at.

Thinking about buy a 2007 4 door wrx or an 2008 4 door both are fairly stock/unmodded just wondering what to look at or to look for. They both sit at around 50k miles.
