My car has 4 seats, but you couldn't cram much beside a toddler in the back comfortably.

so u saying ford designed the volvo s60/v70r's... never new that ford could build a 300 hp inline 5 motor.... hmm let me get back to u on that... NOT.... so why is ford going to use the p2 volvo platform for there next car....(because ford didnt design the platform... thats why)
i hope those that are saying the car is hideous have not seen it in person, because if you say that after seeing it in flesh, you are blind.
you don't see the light glistening and flowing around the body through a static picture, that has to be seen in person.
and all the rotary owners can back me up on this, no piston engine can rev as smoothly as a rotary, none, nada, zilch.
and yes azrarkain, I will be getting one soon...

and as for seating. Imagine having a car with a length that is nearly identical to a Boxter, yet can seat 4 normal-sized ADULTS in comfort, that's high quality engineering right there
yes the rear seats can sit adults very comfortably compared to your typical 2+2 coupes, I tried it out at the Mazda Rev-It-Up this past weekend in Philly
and getting in and out of the rear seats are also much easier compared to a coupe.

Interestingly enough, GM funded much of the early rotary development, sold the licenses to AMC which basically went bankrupt before they could put them to use, and somehow it ended up with Mazda.

There's your GM connection...anything that resulted of GM spending money stayed at GM.

Great information about the inventor and all the other motor related history.

yeh, i think i remember reading somewhere that wankel came up with the concept of the rotary at a very young age, something like 13 years old? can anyone verify this? If so that guy was a freakin genius
As far as the wankel motor goes....I had one of these years ago...It's a 1968 Polaris Wankel Colt snowmobile. I can guarentee you that GM had absolutely nothing to do with the design of this motor
oh yeah. He was 50 some years old when the first rotary engine ran. He worked on the development of some other stuff, like valves and even soem sort of turbin engine but they never panned out.
