Rotary Question
Well since i cant get any outta the autodemics thread becasue people are bitching i was wondering if someone could help me out. Here is what i have and wat Ive done so far.
1986 Mazda RX7 N/A
Ive put a new battery in - old one was fried
I put new spark plugs in it - old ones were in wrong locations and wires in wrong order.
I put a new thermostate i it - Old one was upside down.
Car runs and stays with-in operating temp but when it gets warmed up and is driven for awhile and then turned off it will not restart tell the car cools all the way off.
The old owner says the water pump in it was shitty. I will replace that this weekend, even thought it runs in operating temps.
Can somenoe tell me which spark plugs go where. I know trailing and leading are in right places but dont know exactly if they are in right place since it will start and run in any combo.
Car hesitates at around 3500 rpms when floored but pushes through it and takes off around 5300 rpms and up.
Could the timing be off or what? if anyone has any suggestion (please dont throw in bullshit comments) it would be helpful.
Thanks Ted

Re: Rotary Question
The 3500 thing is a common problem. Its called the 3800rpm hesitation, caused by cold solder points on the ecu. My car does it, its nothing to be concerned about.
I'll look at it if you want me to man.

Re: Rotary Question
my escort does the exact same thing, except if i start it up.. turn it off, and start it up again i have to push the gas pedal to the floor while starting it so the injectors dont flood it.
havent found what it is yet.. next time it does it hold the gas to the floor and see if it tries to start.
I think its a leaky injector, but it could also be an overheating relay, overheating ignition...etc.
clean your TPS/Idle valves also, whatever they're called on rotaries
one guy on another forum had something that sounds like our problem, and he did plugs/wires and it worked fine.. i dont think thats the problem though, im sure in a few weeks one of those plugs is going to be shot again

Re: Rotary Question
dude. it could be leaky injectors. the secondary injectors are known to let in too much fuel in rotary engines. there's a chemical u na use from mazda to run it thru made especially for rotary engine to attempt to solve a fuel inj. leak problem. the best way is to either buy new injectors or clean your current ones. as for that hesitation, p-money is right, i have heard about that type of hesitation before, but yours is a lot more severe than normal.
