Piss off the judge and you can be looking at a racing charge instead of just a reckless driving and reckless endangerment charge. With 46.2-865 your car can be impounded under conviction.

Bottom line... you're going to lose your driving job, pay a fine, have problems getting car insurance payments less than rent, and will do some jail time. Bring a dictionary.

If he didn't sign it, he would have gone to jail right then and there.

This is correct.

Did your friend have a lawyer? Hopefully your lawyer will play 20 questions with the cop to find the out the fact that you were nowhere near your friend going 102 and the judge will see it. But I wouldn't count on it. Good luck. And if you get found guilty, keep appealing it. The money you'll spend in lawyer fees up front will be nothing compared to the fines you'll rack up and increased insurance premiums for the next five years. Take it all the way to a jury if you have to.

Actually, when I was 16 I got a ticket for 'racing' where you turn right on Cedar Road from Battlefield. It's got one lane, we weren't speeding, not following each other too closely and honest to god I was just driving home. But the cop wrote us both up and we went to court and it got dropped and wasted everyone's time. So there is some hope. My lawyer was hot and had huge boobs, so that might have played a part in the verdict.
Thanks, someone who knows what the hell they are talking about.

I wish I appealed my charge. I was just so fucking tired off the whole court, fines, paying my lawyer etc etc I just wanted it to be over.
2 days in jail, 28 suspended and a 300 dollar fine and 6months without my license.

Now I got it back, and boy do I enjoy it. Cruise around with my ac and my radio on. It also helps my car is dog piss slow.

-APPEAL the decision, as Ritz said. I'm almost willing to guarantee the judge will find you guilty the first time around. It looks bad, honestly. You know how many times they see things like this and hear the same tired excuses over and over. No one pleads guilty to it, so of course they automatically assume you're just giving yet another excuse.

Good luck! The new laws are tough. I spent time in jail for 107/55 on my motorcycle, and this was like a year and a half ago before the crazy laws. I wish I had appealed, but my attorney convinced me that I was lucky that I only got a weekend and 40 hours of community service (and a hefty fine). I wish I had just kept appealing.

Also, remember that your attorney is working for you! Don't be afraid to tell them what you expect them to do for you.
I really really really really wish I would have appealed it. My insurance isn't that cheap.

112 a month for liability on a Civic.

The cop told me I could have my car impounded. I woulda been hot if he did.

My car was low, had a huge downpipe and a cutout for open exhaust. All that would be gone.

Uhh, he ran? He should have been charged with felony evading. Something like that is likely to get you more than a few days in jail and a fine.

Eluding is a felony. Either he lied to you, or you made that story up. lol

Not necessarily...now if the lights were on while he was eluding then yes...but usually it is up to the cop. Also depends on the situation...traffic, time, speed.

IMO, it's not eluding unless the lights are on. You're not running if you don't know you're being chased, technically, right? There are different circumstances, of course. If you passed a trooper taking radar and you didn't see them come out, but you sped up to get away "just in case," then I wouldn't call that eluding...
