Default Question for any service writers

I have a friend that bought a car from a private individual. The seller had an extended warranty on the car. The warranty is not transferable. The seller never cancelled the warranty though, and the new owner has all the paper work on the warranty and its still valid except for the fact that its not transferable to the new owner. If the new owner were to bring this car and warranty paperwork to the dealer for a repair, would they even question it? I forgot to mention the warranty is thru a third party company, but the work must be performed at the dealer the car was bought from(One of the casey dealerships). Just wondering if anyone knows how this process works.

If he were to take it in, do they verify anything except that the warranty is still within its time and mile limits? Will they actually check to see if the car has been sold?

The warranty is for the next 3 years. If he chose to do that you would have to be on the lookout at every dealership for the next 3 years...assuming he has a problem and chooses to go that route. Good luck with that.

Yes. I always ask for any warranty paperwork so I can verify the vin, person and what type of contract they have.

Turns out the warranty was transferable for a $20 fee. They are putting a new transmission in under warranty right now. That saved about 2 grand.
