No, the most misleading thing everyone hears about paint jobs is that your existing paint must be sanded down and primed in. Thats incorrect. The best Primer you have is your original paint job (thats if your existing paint isnt peeling off the car) The only time you need to prime anything is in or take it down to the bare metal is if you had a sticker somewhere previously that you dont plan on replacing later(it will bleed back through if you dont sand it do the bare metal, and feather edge it back then prime it in), Bare metal showing, or anywhere you did body work.
Many shops are different, everyone uses different paints which require different prep work. Ive sprayed them all, but i love the way DuPont sprays/wetsands/buffs. What i do, is use a DA and sand the existing paint job down with 320. Anything higher (400+) would work just fine as well but would take more time. DuPonts Sealer recommends sanding it down with 320 due to the fact that anything coarser the sealer wont fill the scratches in and you'll see DA marks/swirls all in your paint work. Make sure you sand around the edges or your door handles, window moldings, etc etc because if the paints going to peel anywhere, it will be along those areas.
does the bumper feel wavy a lil.. if t does you need to wipe it with filler and sand it down untill there is no high or low spots on the bumper..it takes a alot of work mahn..if i were you take it to a body shop to get it done.

You Have Fisheye In your basecoat? WOW..someone really did a shitty job then. There was some serious shit on your car then before he painted it.
I mean, they dont even recommend using fish eye eliminator that you can put in your base due to the fact that all your problems come in effect when then clear coat is applied.
Oh..by the way....whats your friends name that works at bruces, i know a few people who work there. I wanna se if he's the head painter. Everyone you ever talk to now a days says " yeah...im the head painter at coxtons, one stop, etc etc"

its not a pain in the ass at all....prepping is really easy but just needs to be done right and taking your time. Im a car painter.....anything you want to know...... just give me details. Most of the things 5th gen stated is incorrect anyway. (especially the part about touching it with your hands. OIL causes fish eye and it usually accures on your clear coat and not your base.(although you do have oil in your skin) unless someone just takes their finger and intentially rubs it all over the base coat, thats the only time i see it happening)
