Default nova winter driving

i just moved to nova almost 2 mos ago and i have few questions about winter driving. how bad does it snow here? i'll be driving into dc for work. all my cars are fr based so i'm guessing i'll need to get some winter tires...which not so expensive winter tires do you guys recommend? Also when i do get some tires when (what time of the year) should i put them on the car? oh and what do you guys think about snow chains?

thanks

This should be in NoVA forum, but I'll answer it here.

How bad it snows varies from year to year. Two years ago was pretty bad snow, and last year was not. I definitely would recommend snow tires, particularly Bridgestone Blizzaks, especially if your car does not have some form of traction control. I would put them on in late November. You will not need chains.

Exactly what he said.

Apparently this winter is supposed to be the worst according to the squirrels and other almanach sources. I'm switching to steelies end of October.

GO FWD cars!
