4 dead, 16 hurt in Montreal shooting

OTTAWA: Four people were killed and at least 16 were injured when two gunmen attacked a college in downtown Montreal, the RDI network quoted unofficial sources as saying.

“There are said to be... four dead and 16 wounded. This remains to be confirmed. This comes from unofficial sources,” an RDI reporter said.

It was not clear whether the death toll included the two gunmen, who government sources said had also died.
One of the gunmen appeared to have committed suicide while the other was shot by police.
Police were unable to immediately provide details on the gunshots fired inside Dawson College, in downtown Montreal, police spokeswoman Melanie Lajoie said.

According to LCN, an armed man entered the school cafeteria shortly before 1 pm and began shooting.

LCN said four people were injured, but the television network said it could not immediately confirm the details.

Television images showed frightened students running as they were evacuated from the building and one person being carried out on a stretcher.

Alexandra Nadeau, a student interviewed by LCN, said she heard between eight and 10 gunshots and at least one injured had been evacuated.
