Default Inspection question

My girlfriend took the car in to Merchants for an inspection and they failed it for the left front brake hose. I talked to the inspector and he said it has two layers to it, and the outside was rotted and the inside layer was begining to crack (this was bullshit). So, I ordered a new brake hose and put it on tonight but the old one is not damaged, anywhere at all, in any way. I am going to bring it back and let them pass it and then confront them with the old brake hose. If they try to give me a bunch of crap about it then who can I contact? I know the state police regulate inspections but is there a special divison/office withiin them that do this or what?

Out of curiosity what do you hope to accomplish by giving them a bunch of crap? You've already changed the brake hose and should pass fine now. You arent expecting to get your money back for the inspection or anything are you? Maybe have them pay for the new hose? Chances are slim to none but good luck.

I dont really give a shit if I accomplish anything more then making it clear they are trying to screw people over. Its bullshit and they should pay for the brake hose. If they dont then Im out 30 bucks and Ill live but Im not gonna not call em out cause they are giving me an inspection sticker, which they should have done in the first place. If nothing else maybe they will think twice before they try to sell someone else something that is perfectly fine in the first place.

well be smart about it.....park you car on the side of the building...carry the brake hose in and ask a manager if there is any reason why this hose should not pass inspection....if he says no they yank an knot in his ass...show him where his inspector failed it and you want to know why right now...

if he shows you something wrong then just say well i replaced it can you reinspect my car now???

Save the hose and rejection sticker. Return to the station and ask which Trooper over sees their state inspectors. Call 424 6800 and get in contact with that Trooper. Explain to the trooper what happened and if need be file a complaint on that station and inspector. The Trooper will probally want to see the hose so keep it. I would double check the hose for damage before going this far. Make a complaint if need be, but make sure that there's no damage to the hose.

Did you remember to bleed the brakes after replacing the hose?

Thanks for the advice. I will do this. I checked the hose out very well. I bent it and twisted it under a 500w shoplight and there was nothing that could even be mistaken for a crack or rot. I will be amazed if they even attempt to point out anything wrong with it. I did save the rejection sticker as well and it states the hose is ths cause for failure.

Yup, brakes bled and working well.
