I think the SRT-4 is one of the best if not the best platforms for inexpensive big power modifications....even though it's fwd and indeed a neon. If you can handle the ricer flybys and getting laughed at......by all means

I dig my skittle. I will admit that SRT owners are sorta like the mustang guys of the FWD scene in that (most) think that their car is the fastest thing known to man (or would that make them more like Probe owners?). The turning radius is shit, the lack of cruise control is annoying, and no matter what you call it or how you describe it, you will get no points from the fairer sex. Those are my biggest complaints against the car itself. Most people want big turbos, but if I could do it all over again I would've gone with a Stage 3 kit and called it a day. 400hp potential with just plain old bolt-on's. There aren't too many cars of that vintage ('03-'05) that can make the same claim, and virtually none that can do it for the same price. I'm not sure why other people pay so much for insurance. I pay less than $90/mnth full coverage (then again, I'm also 27).

Pros
- Cheap, fast, reliable. With the SRT-4, you no longer have to pick two.
- Good looking (for a neon)
- Mashing on far more expensive cars (sometimes)

Cons

- Be prepared to be lumped in with every SRT owning douche before you.
- Torque steer
- Its a neon. Plain and simple.

If you get an SRT-4, you will be laughed at, clowned on, and disrespected by 75% of the people on this site. If that matters to you, then obviously look elsewhere. If you're the kind of person that's more interested in the potential of the platform than the platform itself, take the plunge. The red one in this post looks pretty good. So does Daft Punk's.

I was going to say allot. But I own 2 srt’s, a 08 and a 04. Love them both the 08 is what the 04 wasn’t. It is defiantly an acquired taste and you need a though skin. Back in 05 to 06 i had 10 and 11 sec cars wanting to race me (a freaking neon).

My daily driver is a 1st Gen Neon. I got a guy I work with an SRT who always wants to race me. That comment about SRT's being the Mustang's of the FWD scene was right on. That being said, if the right one came along, I'd upgrade in a second.
