I hate to tell you but the only place you can get painted for that much is Earl Scheib or Maaco and the opinions of those places ranges. They are cheap but you also dont get quality paint.

 

If all you want is a place to get something painted to make it look good from twenty feet away, then I would take it to Maaco. If not, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but you are going to need a little more than $500. A quality paint job will cost ya about $2500-$4000, depending on how much the body shop has to do for themselves.

 

knock about 1300 off that 2500 bucks you have there and you have yourself a paint job.

If you payed that for a paint job other than a color like chromalusion and no body work your ass got ripped off.

Personally I do all my own body and paint work, but about a month ago, my friend took his '90 300ZX to a body shop to see how much they would charge him to do everything from sanding, preping and painting and they quoted him $4500. That was for normal two stage paint, but them doing every bit of the work. I think the best thing to do would be to find someone that owns the equipment personally and a lot of the time you'll just buy the paint and a case of beer and you have yourself a paint job that looks pretty good. Just make sure they drink the case after they paint your car!
