well i guess that would be a factor in how much potential your car has. If it was designed to have 150hp then it drastically limits the cars potential.

Well you are comparing a car that was designed with 500 Hp to a car that was designed with a lot less. Of course the suspension design is going to be an issue as well as the car design.

I have a '79 MG-B, of course it has its disadvantages compared to the Z06. Mostly aerodynamics at higher speed and traction. However it does have the advantage at weighing in at only ~2100lbs, thats with ac/heat/full interior/and the top on.. I would like to think that eventually with a turbo rover(cheap) or fully built n/a rover(expensive) it could easily take a z06, but of course that would be with a decent driver and alot of changes to help the frame take that power.

But that doesn't really have to do with the cars potential. That is a different question I guess. "What is the limit your car can do using it's FACTORY configuration?"

What I am saying is, you can change the aero, the suspension, the wheels/tires, etc, etc, etc. That alters potential greatly.

True so like I said above I guess when trying to figure out just how far you can go with your car you have to take into account the design of the car. Although i'm sure there must be some cars out there that were designed for much less performance but by sheer dumb luck they are capable for much more.

Well i guess you could see it as a different question but it is closely tied in with the original. My orginal question is what is the potential of your car? It could mean factory or as far modified as a tubular chassis. I guess the real question is when does the car stop being that car and turns into a straight up race car you know? I dont consider the race car versions of factory cars to "really" be those cars. I mean think about it the NHRA have fiberglass rearwheel drive version of the Toyota Solaris running 7 secs in the 1/4. Do you consider that car to really be a toyota solaris anymore?

I don't consider it to be a "solora" any more than you do. That is a purpose built 1/4 mile car.

I wasn't even thinking about "race" cars when I started typing, just assumed this convo would disregard that and kind of stick to "street" cars.

I have an LS1 so that is buttons of potential right there.

As for my other car, I am hoping to get it into the 11s. Not bad for a Bonneville.
