How About a Busted ASS 1.8t?(boom)
looking at your valves... im guessing that you were def. lean for a lil bit of time. they should NOT be that white (imo... not much of a vw expert, but have done quite a few motors).
were you using stock/reman rods on this motor?? what's the torque specs/limit on the ones u had?

and domestic rice... the headgasket is in perfect condition... one intake valve was bent... whihc is the center valve on number 4... which is the rod that let go...
there was detonation in cyl #4 because the top of cyl 4 is blac as hell... however there is no damage to the face fo the cyl. so the detonation was not very severe
as for torque limits... well a few european tuners have tested the 1.8t torque limits on a number of occassions... here is there conclusion
"the stock rods can only handle 333.6ftlbs"
and my rods were seeing about 457 ftlbs... i made 401ftlbs to the wheels... factor 14-15% drivetrain loss and thats how i got that number.
