im thinking a tuned xr4ti will take a ka24de 240 by at least a car. theyre capable of putting down well over 200whp in stock trim with a boost controller and a little tuning. and its like 1980s technology so give it a break. blackout, isnt your 240 sr powered? im planning on ordering a clip from flash options the last week of march... but you know how that normally goes heh

 

no, my car will not be sr powered until at least i get out of a- school maybe this time next year. i'm more concerned with getting a bike right now, and i've already got a decent amount wrapped up in this motor. but i'd ALMOST venture so much to say my car is the quickest (na) ka-powered 240 around here, that i've seen at least. and my car is single cam. but none of this matters, or is really saying much anyway (best time of 15.54 @ 92 mph before the headwork, cam, ignition and underdrive pulley- whoopdee fucking doo maybe it'll run a 15.1 now). right now my car is slow, i'll never begin to imply that it is fast. i did start on a shitty platform, the ka24e, and went the wrong way with it. shit happens.

and little****, as far as platforms go, i'm referring to the overall aftermarket available for your car, as well as the factory numbers and end potential. how much customizing will you have to do to get your car respectably quick? how many xr4ti's out there run 11s? locally? how many make in excess of 600 rwhp? none? damn...
an sr20det can do that.

Im not going to fight with you back and forth on this, but i think you are underestimating our little motors a bit. You gotta give us some credit... The SR20DET is a very bad ass motor, i know that cause i had one in a SE-R before and plan on putting one in my 510, but that doesnt make it the most powerful 4banger engine around. If you do some quick searching you would find a lot of 2.3T power cars that quite a few make well over 600hp.

Oh, and you asked if anyone knows any 11 second XR4Tis locallly. Well i live about 15mins from a guy that ran a 11.07 with his Merkur and that was when the driveshaft broke at the 1100ft mark. I was there and we have it on video. He got a new driveshaft the next week and pulled a 10.49. Im not posting this just to piss you off, but i just dont understand why you still think these cars cant be fast. I also have a very good friend in Oklahoma that is running high 10's in his XR (if i find his video i'll even post it), but you said locally...so i guess he doesnt count.

Well on to a different subject...does it take anything special to swap in a Sr20DET into your 240? I have a friend thinking of doing it also...i've never done it. Where are you planning on getting your motor from? Got a price yet $$$???

a cpu is the only "special" peice you need other than the engine and tranny set up.. a friend of mine has a red top sr20 engine with 20k miles for sale.. only wants 1500.. and a 91 hatch with a blown engine he is willing to sell...

And Im not trying to jump on you blackout.. I just cant see where you say my car cant be fast... there is tons of turbofords in the 10's and some in the 8's.. and this isnt a fiberglass replica with those special windows.. this was just a straight car running at the track.. and all the "custamizing" is done in britain and shipped here... all we have to do is bolt in the stuff.. and its relatively cheap for the location.. and the engine stuff all comes from our home town junkyards... injectors you can find, adjustable fuel pressure regulators.. turbofords arnt flashy. but amazingly quick... I finally decided to actually install of the stuff I have in my shed on the car.. so after its done I will be sitting on a total cost of a grand give or take a hundred bucks and we can hit the track... I just hope the rear and tranny hold up.. stupid shitty platform sucks balls.. lol.. no hard feelings...

We might not have hte "biggest" aftermarket but damn if it isnt the cheapest... less than the 5.slow..

blackout - im pulling my ka24e out of my 240 to get it prepped for the SR in the very near future. if you need any parts give me a holler. from what ive seen the top end is fine but ive been told it has some bottom end problems.

fastiva - ask your friend if the redtop comes with ecu, ignitor chip, transmission and intercooler and get back to me.

 

No ecu, dont konw what an ignitor chip is, and intercooler.. I believe he has a ... "side mount" but dont know how it looks.. he was waiting for a starion/conquest front mount for when he installed it.. but he is moving and doesnt have a way of shipping the stuff.. so he is just trying to sell it all... it does have the tranny as far as I know.. I should see him tonight and ill ask him all of this.. if not Ill defently send him an email and get back to you..

 

like i said before all i know has come off past experience. if there are in fact 10 second merkurs, then i have been proven wrong. wouldn't be the first time, and i'm certain it won't be the last. if i would have thought for a second i have heard of several very fast turbo mustangs and t-birds, i've just never heard of a merkur making it that far. regardless, it shouldn't matter what i think, do what you like. i commend you on having the patience for taking an abstract car and attempting to make something of it- i sure as fuck don't have it.

lude- i appreciate it, but i seriously doubt i will be putting any more work into the ka in my car. i have a spare top half of the motor anyway... if i do anything else to it it will be just to keep it running, my girl's going to have the car until i get back from pensacola, and that's when i plan on doing the swap.

until then maybe you'll see me on a 2003 yamaha yzf-r6 on the streets in pensacola in about 8 months, or cruising around in my slow 240 here.
