Thumbs up Confessions of a Car Salesman

I did a search and I didn't find this article on drag. Sorry if it is a repost. Its a very good read for anyone looking to buy a new car. This guy went undercover at 2 dealerships for 3 months and wrote this really good story.

Warning very long read!

You weren't lying about being a long read. I'm only on part 5. Good stuff so far though.

good article. I think in general this is how all sales work. Most types of sales take there stratagies from the car sales market.

Sales in general is taxing and takes a certain type of individual to be really sucessfull. You almost have to cast your morals overboard and have the "do what it takes" attitude to do the job. It's not that your purposfully want to overcharge, or get over on someone. But you do need to make a living and stay in a good light with the powers that be (management). Its sometimes overwhelming because you feel like your stuck in the middle of a tyson/lewis fight and your talking all the punches. The customer is mike tyson (biting at your ear, punching below the belt) because they have no rules to follow. The can scream, curse at you, call you anything they want and still leave the dealership with no worries. However you, on the other hand have to keep your job and follow the rules. During the whole process you have the managers pressuring you to get the most out of the deal without loosing the customer. If you loose the customer your ass is grass.. you didn't do this right.. or that right.. Or if you get the customer on less than what the company would have liked to have made. It usually results in a cut out of your pay even though the company is by no means loosing any money.

So please, when going to a car dealership, carpet store, wherever you may go to make your purchases.. Be kind to the salespeople. We are only trying to make a living.

You should see the kind of crap used car dealers get away with.
