Chrysler becomes Lancia?

http://www.insideline.com/chrysler/l...e-in-2011.html

Just the Facts:

* Fiat will replace the Chrysler brand with Lancia throughout much of continental Europe by May 2011.
* Chrysler brand will remain only in the U.K. and Ireland, where Lancia is not sold.
* Dodge brand will be used only for such niche models as the Charger, Challenger and Viper.

TURIN, Italy — As part of an ongoing overhaul and consolidation of its European sales operations, Fiat will replace the Chrysler brand with Lancia throughout much of continental Europe by May 2011 but will retain the Dodge and Jeep brands.

According to a report in Automotive News, the Chrysler brand will remain only in the U.K. and Ireland, where Lancia is not sold.

The publication quoted Olivier Francois, head of Chrysler/Lancia, as saying, "Our plan is to have in place by May 2011 a Lancia/Chrysler integrated network comprising about 800 dealers and over 1,000 dealerships."

Fiat in late April disclosed detailed plans to merge the two brands and share various platforms and vehicles in the future.

Under the new plan, the Dodge brand will be used only for such niche models as the Charger, Challenger and Viper, according to Automotive News, while Jeep will remain as a dedicated brand that will be offered through various Chrysler/Lancia dealers in Europe.

The Lancia badge will be used in the future on such Chrysler models as the redesigned 300C, the revised Town & Country (marketed in Europe as the Voyager) and the successor to the Sebring.

At the 2010 Detroit Auto Show in January, Chrysler without explanation displayed a version of the Lancia Delta fitted with a Chrysler front end, but disclosed no further details about or plans for the car.

Inside Line says: An ambitious plan — the latest of several — to revive the flagging Lancia brand in Europe. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
kinda sad, I also heard that this is happening in the U.S. soon too, FIAT is going to phase out Chrysler and maybe Dodge too. Discuss.

Well... when was the last time you met someone who gave a shit about Chrysler?

I think it's a good move. Keep the 300 though, somewhere.

well not Chrysler, but Dodge still has a lot of supporters, it's just kind of sad to see one of the big 3 die.

Well Chrysler is the only non publicly traded out of the 3...
As of May 25 2010

1) 80.1% of "Chrysler Holding LLC" is not available for trading at any public stock exchange. However...

2) 19.9% of "Chrysler Holding LLC" is currently available indirectly. Should you decide to invest in "DAI", you will also invest in Chrysler, because "Daimler AG" still owns 19.9% of "Chrysler Holding LLC" which designs, manufactures, assembles and sells cars and trucks under the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge names.

3) 35% of "Chrysler Holding LLC" will be available soon for investment. It will be through "Fiat", the Italian auto maker, a public corporation traded at the Milan stock exchange. The Fiat ticker is "F.MI". As you might recall, on Jan. 20, 2009, they agreed to buy a 35% stake in "Chrysler Holding LLC". However, considering the likely bankruptcy of Chrysler, and the mess the bankruptcy will create, currently there is a debate raging over whether the Chrysler merger with Fiat will be a success.

Note: The stock symbol was DCX.BA before all of the above occured

Cerberus Capital Management ultimately bought out 100% of Chrysler (Cerberus is a very diverse company, and owns, among other things, the Remington, Bushmaster, and DPMS firearms manufacturing companies). They turned around and gave Fiat of Italy a 20$ stake in Chrysler, and this may eventually be increased to 51%

Will at east the Viper will still be around and with only three models now they will have an excuse for the outrageous price tags they already have.

I thought they killed the Viper after this year anyway.

Im curious to know whos going to end up with the Jeep brand. Having the name "Fiat" on a Jeep is a little bit unnerving if you ask me.
