Default Can a get a reliable/good condition Civic for $4000?

I see the last generation started in 2001... can I get one of those in good condition with around 100k miles for $4k?

Trying to help my GF get out of debt and she needs dependable cheap transportation to start digging out of her hole.

Thanks,
Brian

From what I've seen, I think they're more like $5k, maybe you can get one for 4,XXX, but I don't think $4k.

You can get an ugly but mechanically sound 80s Mercedes Turbodiesel for like $2k. Then again, if you're willing to go ugly you can prob get the newer Civic too.

I guess I'm trying to learn more about the cars. I can't think of a better option for cheap reliable transportation.

What about the pre-2001s?

You could prob get an early 2000s Chevy Malibu or mid 2000s Chevy Cavalier. Asian cars don't seem to depreciate as hard as they normally do around here.

you could probably find a generally reliable pre-2001 civic for around 4k, and even if it does break parts shouldn't cost that much

True... but as much as I love American cars I'd trust a 2000 Civic over a 2000 Malibu all things equal. If I knew the history on the Chevy that'd be different.

What's the first year of the pre-2001 generation?

Also GM has a problem for some reason on putting together Intake Gaskets without them leaking

Just shop around, but a civic is def reliable and cheap.

Well I was thinking you could get like a 2002 Malibu instead of a 2000 civic or like a 2005 cavalier (what can go wrong in 4 years...though I guess with The General, that's a question I don't want the answer to).
