In certain states, like PA, if you transfer from DE you have to pay sales tax when registering in the new state. I think it expires after a certain amount of time though.

3 out of 4 of my last car purchases were made out of state. Better deals.

Not sure how you do that...there's going to be a standard pricing for the car then it's a matter of dealing.

I also have several buddies that buys most of there cars out of state. They seem to get great deals also. Seems like this area likes to do "market adjustments" on the more desireable cars while other areas do not.

Good thread cause I'm more than likely going to Maryland for my next car. Everything seems to be listed for ~2k less there.

But first Ill take those prices into local dealers and like LH said, ask them why they can't do that price.

I mean the window sticker is going to be the same on two identical cars unless they put a "market adjustment" on it like when the GT500s came out etc.

I'd call the dealer thats OOS and get a copy of the window sticker and then bring it in and compare and force the local dealer to work with you

The only way you're really going to get a deal is if the OOS dealer has special financing or deals that are in house that a closer dealer won't match.

I saved nearly 6 thousand dollars on the three cars I purchased out of state (CTS-V bought in Michigan, Acura MDX and Mazda3 purchased in Annapolis, MD). Lots of variables between dealerships which affects pricing a lot. For such a huge market, Hampton Roads does not generally have competitive prices. There are a few exceptions, but I shopped intensively everywhere before deciding. There are a lot of dumb military kids buying cars along with others here.

I mean I saved almost $5K on the Edge I just bought from sticker using every discount I can find but I can't see how buying cars OOS saves money.

I mean the base Edge Sport is like $37K plus options...

so where would the difference in pricing be between one state and another?

i flew one way to atlanta to buy my ford diesel f350 lariat truck. in cash.

definitely worth it. make sure you have a tag to get it home. get a va temp tag before you go if you can, or ask the dealership for one.

Markups, if any........how long a car sits on the lot, inventory levels, volume incentives and dealer holdbacks can affect prices. One of the dumbest dealerships I visited happened to be Suttle Cadillac, I laughed in their face when presented with the bullshit they were spewing. Just be a very informed shopper and use Edmunds and KBB as good price reference points.
