sorry to come in with a sorta off topic question: My car is 5 speed, & first of all is the 5th gear overdrive or just another gear? and secondly is riding around town around 45-50mph putting alot of strain on 5th?

most cars that have a 5th gear have the 5th as overdrive.
some don't tho....
if you're able to drive around town at 45-50 mph and it isn't lugging your engine, then you should be fine.
the reason it's a concern for ppl with slushboxes is because if it's a 4 or 5 speed auto, the top gear is almost always meant as an overdrive... and driving below 55 mph with the OD engaged usually ends up in the tranny shifting into OD as soon as you hold the throttle at a constant position (ie not attempting to accelerate any faster), and then as soon as you vary a little bit, the tranny has to shift out of overdrive to adjust your speed because there's not enough torque in the OD gear at low speeds to do anything. this results in a hotter tranny thats shifting twice as much as it needs to be. --> dead tranny

Since when does a shift kit heat up a tranny??? It actually extends tranny life because it shifts harder, meaning it changes gears quicker. The soft shift you feel in stock cars is the tranny engaging 2 gears at once, it slides slowly so that there isnt any jerk like from a sudden shift.
