no. the 4L60e is way worse.

the T56 can hold it fine, they probably don't have a clutch or IRS on the shelf capable of handing that.

They didn't consider using a Tremec TR-6060?

How about if it were dual clutch transmission? The 1001 HP Bugatti sports it...

One of the guys over at Corvetteforum had a chance to meet and hear Tom Wallace (the chief engineer for Corvette) speak at an ALMS race. Though he would not give much detail on the new SS/Z08 he did say that it will have a manual transmission. I bet (this is just me) that it will have some sort of launch control ala the Ferraris.

Lies! Lies and speculation!
The Vette market would quickly die if auto trannies were the only option. Some people in the US actually prefer manual tranny sports cars. I know, I know, I was shocked too.

There was some sarcasm there. If they built that with a 4l60, it would last about 3 miles.

Who cares about what's on the shelf? Not much serious engineering for new vehicles is done that way, unless it's going to be a model with platform sharing.

Ya, the clutch and the IRS would be the area's that would need improvement. The 03-04 Cobra's had the shittiest T-56's made and they hold up pretty well to 600+ to the tires.
As Jay said, The new one in the Shelby (6060) would have no problems with anything that vette could throw at it.
