I believe that what most of you are missing, is that the 4g63 leads the world in both the "most power" (AMS) and the "fastest 4-cylinder" (Brent Rau, who ran 6.94 seconds in the 1/4 mile, look it up... it's on youtube) titles. also, it's the cheapest engine to build/mod, and it has just as large of a following as those honda ricers, that think they're fast with thier shitty v-tec (v-tec sucks guys, you'll NEVER beat a turbo car that has the same amount of money invested) "all of the lag, none of the boost. Like waiting for REALLY bad sex." so stop comparing honda, their shitty technology and lack of ability to PROPERLY turbocharge a car; to anything else.
the UK also got a SPECIAL version of the 4g63, see Here for source. which has the highest specific output of ANY production engine (beating out the porche, ferrari, and lamourghini)
I've seen alot of posts about crankwalk being a major problem. this is not the case if the builder knows what they're doing. there's a thrust bearing fix, an oil squirter fix, and a main bearing cap fix. when used in conjunction, these fixes have been shown to ELIMINATE crankwalk.
Look, the long and short of it is... I've seen honda guys put 10K into their engines, and only come out with 700-750 FWHP, and quarter mile times of around 11-12 I've seen mitsubishi guys put 6K into their engines and come out with ~1000 AWHP (keep in mind that AWHP is harder to obtain too) and <10 sec quarter mile times.
in the end, they're cheaper to build, can handle more power and if built correctly, are not any less reliable than a BMW engine.

Brent Rau ran 6.83@199mph on May 31, 2009 at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota.
He's been over 200mph before. Chivy is not the fastest.

Chivy King's car is a full tube chassis car which weighs 1800lbs. Brent's car weighs 2350. It's an apples and oranges comparison. Chivy went 6.80's with WAY less power than Brent has. Brent's car is not "back halved". It's 3/4 chassis. The fastest 4 cylinder isn't a VW. It's Don Nase's Ecotec powered dragster which no longer exists. It went 6.41@209. The record that has yet to be broken and people are chasing after is the "first TRUE 3/4 chassis Import in the 6's". Brents car isn't a true 3/4 chassis car. No firewall and the framerails were welded back in after he decided to run NHRA Sport Compact Modified class in 2007. It's not just Toyotas that are going for it. Mazda rotaries are also in the hunt. Right now, Hard Target (7.11), Rosado Racing (7.09), Paradise Racing (7.21), and Jerry Racing 4G63 Corolla (7.32) are the front running piston powered cars to get there first. Where are you guys getting it that Brent is regulated by some sanctioning body???? Nobody makes Brent slow his car down. Brent leans on his stuff as hard as he can. There's no turbo size limits or any of that crap. He just has to weigh 2350lbs. You guys have been misinformed. Do you guys actually think that Brent DOESN'T run his stuff full boost all out each time he starts the engine????? The car has no wastegate. 86 psi is not uncommon with his car. Brent doesn't go out to set records, they just happen. Brent actually wants to race against Chivy and Hard Target and whoever else thinks they have the fastest Import door car whenever and wherever. He's ready for them. And waiting.
