3rd brake light....needed?
I'm trying to find out if the 3rd brake light on vehicles can be deleted without any problems with the law.

the state inspection book says if the light is there it has to work. if its not there and has been deleted then you should be fine unless you get an asshole state inspector. my old 2000 civic hatch witchs is for sale on here for right now didnt have a 3rd brake like and it passed. the inspector and the shops owner looked it up in the book and the book stated that if the light is there it has to work if its not there and the housing is not there you are fine. i know plenty of people with deleted 3rd break lights and they dont get any trouble from anybody about it.
^yep, as long as the assembly is removed you shouldn't have a probblem. My old 93 pickup had issues w/ the reverse lights(bad ground). As long as the plugs and bulbs were removed it passed.
huh.....
I'm building my 240 and I want to remove things that are not really needed and still keep it street legal. For example 3rd brake light. I dont really know the laws on this thats why I asked. To be honest I did not search at all before posting this thinking no one had posted this issue on here before.

Dont really know. I did remove it on my old vert without any problems, but this time I want to make sure I have everything in check, so not to draw unwanted attention. Older cars didnt come with one, so my guess is that it must be an add on after a certain year. I wish someone in law enforcement would chime in.
