Hey Brian, it's already a convertible. It doesn't have great torsional rigidity to begin with. A strut brace will only stiffen up an area that is already stiffer than the worst part of the chassis anyway, so its still going to be too flexy.

Which brace are you talking about? The lower one?

^ I'm just wondering if there would be a way to restore it to pre-swaped rigidity.

It's not so much a brace as a huge chunk of car just missing.

See the yellow dude the battery and the oil filter are mounted on?

Magically missing here:

Wow, didn't even notice that. That should take a bit away from torsional stiffness, yeah. That's not something a strut brace will help more than a little bit; a strut brace is doing a different function and will work differently without that front brace there.. That missing brace looks like a main box member, so now the front frame is probably a lot more like an open U than a closed rectangle. Not that great.

If you take a shoebox (with no lid) and cut out most of the bottom, that's what you're starting with in front of the firewall. A strut brace helps keep the floppy sides braced to each other. Cutting that front member out is like cutting the end out of that shoebox; you aren't left with very much even with the strut brace there. You still have whatever the engine sits on, and the radiator support, and maybe some minor other stuff, but nothing like the closed box that you started with.
