Default Out of state tags and VA laws

I currently have Hawaii tags on my truck I am not a resident of VA, I have a New Hampshire drivers license, but last night some cop gave me a ticket for "unlawful equipment" and said that he could have given me about 10 more. Why does this state feel that they can hand out tickets to people whos vehicles are not VA registered? My vehicle seeing as it is registered in HI is subject to HI inspection laws NOT VA.

Does anyone know where I can read something about this? I really think that it is BS, what if I was on my way to NC and happened to be driving through VA, would it have been different?

I understand if I was speeding and got a speeding ticket....That would make sense, because it is a moving violation! My vehicle being altered is not a moving violation.

Can anyone shed some light on this subject? if you do not know what you are talking about and are going to say something like: "it happens to everyone" please save the key strokes, and dont respond.

Thanks,
Adam

Virginia law states that motor vehicle laws apply to any vehicle driving on its roadways.

Since VA is a commonwealth, not a state, It makes most of it's money via traffic violations and other sorts of fineable offences. But he is right, law says that any vehicle traveling on the roadways has to follow all regulations it has. That's something we learned in Driver's Ed.

I wouldnt say that it is the same at all.....A radar detector you can just shut off. I cant reinstall factory taillights or magically remove my air suspension when I am in VA.

Does anyone know where I can read about these faggot ass BS laws?
