Default Housing in Newport News

I have a friend that is moving to Newport News, and she is looking for a good place to live. Where would y'all suggest living? Where would y'all suggest NOT living?

Also, I remember seeing a forum member having an APT or CONDO for rent in either NN or VaBeach in their sig, can't remember who though. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Midtown, from Main to Oyster Point, or possibly even the waterside of Denbigh BLVD isnt bad. City Center, Port Warwick, Hidenwood/Lakeside/CNU Campus area are all good areas. Along Oyster Point from Jefferson to where it turns to Boxley are pretty nice houses/apt's too.

The lowest paid service writer at the dealership was $52,000 last year...so work with that. Suttle Motor Corp. on Jefferson ave. Something close to there.

As long as you stay between J. Clyde Morris Blvd and Oyster Point Road, you are going to be a good area. East of J. Clyde Morris gets sketchy real quick after you pass Main Street. West of Oyster Point is turning into the ghetto right before our eyes... There are still some good neighborhoods in that area, but they are all towards the James River, South of Warwick Blvd. Pretty much anything North of Jefferson Ave is good too. So, stay out of most of Denbigh, the East End and you should be ok.

I would suggest looking in Yorktown as well, close enough and much more peaceful.
